Finals! So this semester I thought I would try taking some pictures of eyes showing emotion but once I actually got in the studio and started shooting I did not like the idea and it wasn’t as good as I though it would be. Mr. Twichell told us to do something that we were good at but I would probably say my strongest suit is sports photography and unfortunately all of the sports and done for the season so I decided portraits are probably next in line. I tried getting people to come and model for me and not a lot of them could so I was left with only a couple of models but I was determined to make it work. I had originally planned on going downtown on Saturday at like eleven o’clock but one thing led to another and we didn’t end up making it down there till about two o’clock. By that point I was so ready to start shooting. I was nice outside and we started venturing around. I chose downtown because I knew that there were a lot of nice alleys with interesting backgrounds. I got my inspiration from http://www.christinagphotography.com/index2.php#/home/. I really liked the way that she set people up and how the emotions emanated though out the pictures. I also took my inspiration from many people in my class and the work that I have seen them do. So we got downtown, started walking and I started shooting. I had them stop and pose. It never seems to get easier deciding how to make people pose and where and then taking the picture soon enough so you don’t lose the emotion or light or make your model feel uncomfortable. It was difficult because even though it was a nice day the sun kept moving behind the clouds so then I had to adjust everything really quick while trying to pose people. I wish I would have taken more pictures because even though I took about 100 not all of them were my best work or looked as good as I thought they would. Once I had taken the pictures and got them into photoshop since I shot in RAW I used the RAW adjustments and adjusted the temperature, the color, the exposure, blacks, fill light, saturation, contrast and vibrance. After that I used levels and the burn tool. On a couple of my pictures I used an action called Professional Retro and also Vintage. I am quite pleased with how they came out and I hope you enjoy!
I have learned so much about photography this last year and looking back at some of my old pictures I have grown a ton! Even though I won’t be taking this class next year I will be updating my blog and hopefully I will continue to learn and grow. This class was defiantly one of my favorites and it will be one class that I actually miss. I hope you have enjoyed looking at my pictures as much as I have had taking them. Have a great summer!
