Final

Finals! So this semester I thought I would try taking some pictures of eyes showing emotion but once I actually got in the studio and started shooting I did not like the idea and it wasn’t as good as I though it would be. Mr. Twichell told us to do something that we were good at but I would probably say my strongest suit is sports photography and unfortunately all of the sports and done for the season so I decided portraits are probably next in line. I tried getting people to come and model for me and not a lot of them could so I was left with only a couple of models but I was determined to make it work. I had originally planned on going downtown on Saturday at like eleven o’clock but one thing led to another and we didn’t end up making it down there till about two o’clock. By that point I was so ready to start shooting. I was nice outside and we started venturing around. I chose downtown because I knew that there were a lot of nice alleys with interesting backgrounds. I got my inspiration from http://www.christinagphotography.com/index2.php#/home/. I really liked the way that she set people up and how the emotions emanated though out the pictures. I also took my inspiration from many people in my class and the work that I have seen them do. So we got downtown, started walking and I started shooting. I had them stop and pose. It never seems to get easier deciding how to make people pose and where and then taking the picture soon enough so you don’t lose the emotion or light or make your model feel uncomfortable. It was difficult because even though it was a nice day the sun kept moving behind the clouds so then I had to adjust everything really quick while trying to pose people. I wish I would have taken more pictures because even though I took about 100 not all of them were my best work or looked as good as I thought they would. Once I had taken the pictures and got them into photoshop since I shot in RAW I used the RAW adjustments and adjusted the temperature, the color, the exposure, blacks, fill light, saturation, contrast and vibrance. After that I used levels and the burn tool. On a couple of my pictures I used an action called Professional Retro and also Vintage. I am quite pleased with how they came out and I hope you enjoy!

I have learned so much about photography this last year and looking back at some of my old pictures I have grown a ton! Even though I won’t be taking this class next year I will be updating my blog and hopefully I will continue to learn and grow. This class was defiantly one of my favorites and it will be one class that I actually miss. I hope you have enjoyed looking at my pictures as much as I have had taking them. Have a great summer!

Spring

It’s the beginning of  Spring and so much is going on. As you can see I have quite a few different types of pictures. First I started out taking some pictures using the ring light. I love it! I love how nice and clean it makes the photos look and how simple it is to use as well. I also have a picture of my dog that I took while I was walking him. He is so good. The final pictures I have are of hummingbirds. At my grandma and grandpa’s they have a hummingbird feeder and we always go up to their house after church on Sunday’s to have lunch. The last couple of weeks the hummingbirds have been going crazy. There have been about 7 or 8 around the feeder at the time. I thought that it would be sweet to take some pictures because they are so unique and interesting. Here is where I got some of my inspiration. http://www.humabout.net/ Enjoy.

Alright, well here is my movie poster. For those of you who don’t know why I made this, it was a photo assignment and we had to create a movie poster with the title “The Student” and we could interpret that any way we wanted to so this is what  I came up with. It actually took me a while to get started and I had some good ideas but they didn’t really turn out so them my friend Amanda and I came up with this idea and with the help of Mitchell we made this “crime scene.” All we did was got a year book, a text book, some other school related books, papers and a knife. Then we laid it out on the counter and placed plastic wrap over the book and made the fake blood which consisted on cream, corn syrup red food coloring and a half a drop of blue food coloring. Then we bloodied up the scene. I then, in photoshop, put a midnight action on it to give it the darker effect. Making this photo was one of the funnest photo shoot ever. I really enjoyed working on it. Hope you enjoy!

So once again I have some lacrosse pictures, and I really like how they came out. I really focused on trying to get their whole body in the picture but it is actually really hard because they are moving so fast and you have to move with them and so many things are going on at once that you really have to focus. I also took some sunset pictures. We have had some awesome sunsets lately and while I’m driving if I see a sunset I grab my camera and try to sanp a few pictures. Hope you enjoy!

Random Edits

So this week I decided just to edit some more of the pictures that I took last week. I really like how some of them turned out. I explained a lot of this last week but I went to Honeysuckle beach and took some night portraits of my friends. Some of the problems I had was the shutter speed. I had to have such a long shutter speed that even with my tri-pod they were a tiny bit blurry. Another problem was the light. There wasn’t really any light but we did take some pictures under street lights which gave off an odd light so it was kind of difficult to get the pictures to look right. I did however use actions on almost every picture but I think that they all go well together.

For this picture I set my camera on the dock (with it still around my neck) and had the shutter set for about 8 seconds.

I really like this picture. On this one I used muted fashion and I like the color it gave the picture.

I like this one because of the contrast of colors but one thing that I don’t like is the fact that his face is so dark. I kind of reminds me of the Phantom from the Phantom of the Opera.

I like this one because of the colors but her face is kind of bright. This picture was also kind of blurry to start off with but it makes it seem like she’s glowing.

This is a picture taken on Landcaster Rd. If you look closely in the sky you can see an airplane.

So this weekend I’m going to get out and take some new pictures. I’m not quite sure what. There is a lacrosse game here tomorrow morning that I’m planning on going to so I’ll get some of that. I’ll also probably take some portraits… I guess just whatever I feel like :]

Portraits and Sports

So this week I took a couple different types of pictures. Last friday night my friends and I were trying to figure out what to do and we decided to go down to the lake and take some portraits. We tried to get down there before it got to dark and we did manage to get some pictures but then it got late so we ended up taking some more portraits in the dark. I think some on them came out really well. The only problem that I had was having my camera on manual I had to have the shutter open quite wide and even with my tri-pod a lot of the pictures came out kind of blurry which is disappointing. Later I did turn on the flash and got some good pictures that way. Then Saturday I went to the track meet that was here to see some of my friends from CHS and Mt. Spokane compete and ended up taking some pole vaulting pictures. That was pretty fun as well. Then on Monday there was a JV lacrosse game against Lake City. I have quite a few friends who play and so I enjoy watching the game as well at taking pictures. A win-win if you ask me. I’ll probably have some more lacrosse pictures next week. Enjoy!

Stephanie!

I really like the look of this one. I like how blue the sky is and how the lighting only hits half of his face.

This one is kind of odd. First off it was kinda of blurry but then I used an action called Muted Fashion which gave it this look. I think it works for this picture.

Here’s David.

So this picture is probably my favorite. This is actually one of my friends Alec. Here’s before….

…and here’s after. I clone stamped the ball so it wasn’t blurry. Sharped Alec and the ball a little bit. And then clone stamped out the guy behind him. Cloning out the grass was easy but the part right under his arm was really hard. After I cloned it, I blurred it. added some noise and burned the background. I also slightly saturated the grass and adjusted the levels and color.

I really enjoy taking sports pictures, it’s probably one of my favorite types. I can’t wait to do some more.

Night

Night and light. That is what I did this week. One night I just went up to my friends house and we decided to take some pictures. We had so much fun taking these pictures. I learned a lot about taking pictures at night. Enjoy.

This last one really has nothing really good “photographically” but it pretty much sums us up. :)
